Responding to Sunday’s arrest of former First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“While not unexpected, it is still shocking to see Nicola Sturgeon become the second successive former SNP First Minister to be arrested.
"While it would be wrong to comment on a live police investigation, I would urge the SNP to cooperate fully with Police Scotland to ensure that the public's trust in our political system is not further compromised.
“There is now a growing number of senior SNP figures calling for Humza Yousaf to suspend Nicola Sturgeon from the party until the matter is fully resolved, or for her to resign her membership voluntarily.
“Unfortunately, Humza Yousaf has, so far, appeared to be too weak or unwilling to take that necessary action. That means Scotland’s party of government continues to be distracted by their internal woes, instead of focusing on things like the ferries crisis, the cost of living and unacceptable NHS waiting lists - the issues that really matter to communities like ours.
"Scotland deserves better than a government embroiled in some third rate Scottish version of House of Cards”.
