Commenting as ferry services across the Corran Narrows were suspended due to technical issues, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“This highlights the lack of resilience on this route and the huge impact this has on local communities and businesses.
“A 47 year old vessel, The Maid of Glencoul, has been left covering one of Scotland’s busiest routes because the boat that usually covers the route is delayed coming back from annual refit.
“The whole service now relies on a single unreliable vessel, leaving passengers with no alternative but long and potentially dangerous road journeys when things go wrong.
“The Scottish Government’s Transport Minister, who has promised me she will meet with local communities, needs to get that organised now as a priority so that she can come and hear first hand the concerns of locals and local businesses, and start working seriously with Highland Council on a solution”.
