Following yesterday's (Tuesday) debate, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has expressed his disappointment over the absence of Green MSPs during the Scottish Parliament’s latest debate on the dualling of the A9.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “Once again, the Highlands and Islands’ only Green MSP failed to attend another crucial debate on the A9.
“Ariane Burgess’s continued absence demonstrates a clear lack of interest in the views of her constituents, who have repeatedly called for action on this vital infrastructure project.
“Given the widespread concern about the SNP/Green Government’s handling of the A9 project, I had hoped for attendance from Green MSPs, if only to listen to the concerns of the majority of MSPs – from across the chamber - who spoke about the impact on local communities of the Government’s failure to deliver on their promises.
“Instead, the Greens have let down their constituents down, utterly failing to take an opportunity to demand answers from ministers about the future of this crucial road project.
“All MSPs from the Highlands and Islands should be taking their responsibilities seriously and representing the interests of their constituents. We need to work together to keep pressure on the Scottish Government to get the A9 dualled as soon as possible.
“It will be crystal clear to people across the Highlands that this second no show by the Greens proves that the A9 just isn’t a priority for them”.
