> As the RNLI today celebrates the 200th anniversary of its founding, Jamie’s parliamentary motion recognising this has now received cross party support from across the political spectrum.
Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has submitted a Scottish Parliament motion celebrating the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's (RNLI) 200th anniversary.
A supporter of the RNLI, Mr Halcro Johnston has marked the motion for Member’s Business, meaning it could be chosen to be debated in the Scottish Parliament chamber, allowing the RNLI’s work across Scotland to be highlighted.
Mr Halcro Johnston said:
"With its dedicated volunteers - risking their lives to rescue those in danger - the RNLI's 200th anniversary gives us an opportunity to recognise their invaluable contribution to our coastal communities.
"As well as celebrating the Institution’s long history, I hope that this motion will be chosen for members' business, giving MSPs from across Scotland the chance to highlight the crucial role the RNLI plays in keeping our waters safe, and the ultimate sacrifice made by many of its crew members.
“And it will also allow us to remember the RNLI crew who never came home, those who made the ultimate sacrifice to save the lives of others.
"The RNLI is such an important part of communities across my Highlands and Islands region, and as a supporter of the charity, I am proud to honour the RNLI's remarkable legacy and ongoing work saving lives at sea”.
