Commenting after the Post Office announced that the Balmacara Post Office would close on 17th May 2024, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
"While I understand the challenges involved in maintaining these facilities, and that there are alternatives relatively nearby, it's still disheartening to see yet another example of local services being lost to rural areas.
"Those who live in our rural communities can rely more heavily on the face-to-face services that local post offices provide, and they are often places where some of our most vulnerable and isolated residents meet.
"It is quite clear that both the Post Office and government should be working together to take the action needed to prevent further closures in the future".
