> Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston was on his way to Dunvegan Primary School on Skye to see for himself the state of some of the school's deteriorating facilities, issues which are well known to the public and which Mr Halcro Johnston has raised in Parliament.
Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has expressed his deep disappointment at the sudden cancellation by Highland Council of his planned visit to Dunvegan Primary School today. Mr Halcro Johnston was on his way to the school when the visit was cancelled.
Mr Halcro Johnston said:
"I am extremely disappointed - and frustrated - with the decision to cancel this visit.
"I have actively raised concerns about the state of the school in Parliament and have been contacted by concerned individuals who want to see much needed improvements.
"I was actually on my way to the school to assess the situation for myself when the invitation was withdrawn.
"That decision is baffling given that the state of some of the facilities at Dunvegan Primary School is well known, with parents and others vocal in their concerns.
"I have no idea why Highland Council would feel they needed to block a visit by an MSP, and do so at the last minute."
