[Scottish Parliament, 05.06.2024] Responding to the news that NHS Highlands has postponed today's stakeholder consultation meeting on the urgent health plan for north Skye, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“After the incidents in Portree a few weeks ago, Scottish ministers and NHS Highland made it look like they had finally recognised the seriousness of the situation on Skye.
“But now, after initial progress seemed to have been made, it is disappointing that timescales and commitments have been allowed to slip again which has rightly angered the community.
“Campaigners and residents have repeatedly been fed false promises on services being restored but for them to have confidence that this will happen, NHS Highland must be open and transparent on the plan they have submitted to Scottish ministers.
“Rather than excluding the community from the process, they must release details of the draft plan, and come forward at the earliest opportunity with a new date for their meeting with key community stakeholders.
“In the meantime, they must keep communities on Skye fully in the loop with how discussions and proposals with Scottish ministers are progressing and when they will be delivered.
“I will be seeking an FMQ on Thursday on this alarming predicament which has been allowed to spiral under the Scottish Government’s watch.”
