After his question to the Scottish Government about the health incidents and lack of urgent care in North Skye over the weekend was not selected for today’s Topical Questions at the Scottish Parliament, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
"I am disappointed that I won’t have the opportunity today to raise the concerns of local people on Skye about the lack of urgent care in Portree over the weekend directly with the Health Secretary.
“Serious questions need to be answered on why there appears not to have been adequate urgent care cover available in North Skye for what was known long in advance to be an extremely busy weekend.
"I have now asked for the opportunity to raise the issue with the new First Minister, John Swinney, at Thursday's FMQs, as I did with the previous First Minister only a few weeks ago.
"I will also be writing to the Health Secretary and to NHS Highland asking for an investigation into why Portree Hospital was closed and, as it appears, adequate urgent care provision wasn’t in place".
