Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has called on SNP and Green MSPs from across the Highlands and Islands to show up to a key Scottish Parliament debate next week on the A9.
Mr Halcro Johnston has written to all nationalist MSPs in the region urging them to take part in his Member’s Business debate on Tuesday 21st March, and said it was time they put their constituents first.
The Scottish Conservative MSP was frustrated that the coalition government’s MSPs failed to attend a previous debate on A9 dualling in February, with all but one then voting against a motion which condemned the Scottish Government for breaking their promise to complete dualling by 2025.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “It was incredibly disappointing that none of the region’s SNP or Green MSPs were present during the previous debate, but then all bar one showed up to back their government’s failure to deliver on their promise.
“It shows a complete lack of regard for our local communities, and a failure to speak up for local people on local issues.
“I am now calling on SNP and Green MSPs to put our constituents first by attending – and speaking in - the debate I have secured on the 21st of March. This is a chance for them to right a wrong, make up for the previous nationalist no show and to finally stand up for our constituents.
"Highlands and Islands MSPs from all parties should be getting behind our constituents and sending a clear message to the SNP/Green Government: No more excuses. No more delays. Get the A9 dualled.”
